@ethanschoonover I love to work from here… a nearby camp where I worked in summers as a college student and met my wife. I usually have the place to myself in the off-season. Logging app is RumLogNG. I bounce between it and MacLogger… they are both fine. What do you use?

@jsonstein @KJ7OFH Great radio. Display/UI feels like an early draft of what 101/10/710 have now but perfectly usable and inclusion of 2m/70cm makes it such a great all-in-one rig. Rails a must if you are toting it around!

A quiet morning operating W1AW/0 for Volunteers on the Air. A few contacts in New England and one in Belize so far. Come find me at 28.435 until 10am CDT

Loved the internet in the 90s? may be for YOU! 😁😂 No commercialization, pure joy in the ability to chat with randos around the globe, data modes that feel like hitting up PPP and Kermit… complete the throwback vibes with your favorite grunge flannel.

@mrwilson It was a quiet day for me. Always fun to see all the teams, vans and costumes. Pink Gorilla really does a great job organizing the event.

@mrwilson I've wondered about those Omaha segments. There was enough going on with radio traffic on our side of the Platte without listening to the other side. We were having issues with traffic (including team vehicles) on 310th around Murdock. Teams have to be relieved to get on to the MoPac East trail...

@jsonstein Thank you! I love the check list idea. I did my third net last night and I have relied on a heavily scripted net — and I know that I sound like I'm reading the whole thing, but that's fine for now. I've had a couple mishaps and been grateful to have the next words right in front of me. As I get more comfortable, there is a lot of stuff that I could definitely reduce to a set of checklist items that would be a lot easier to track. I appreciate your experience and suggestion!

Had a pretty busy weekend helping with support for the Market to Market Relay, the largest day-long relay race in the U.S., then taking care of a corner for the Crop Hunger Walk in town on Sunday. I managed to complete my Lincoln Craft Beer Week card in between 😁🍺

@cpultz you’re just going to have to suck it up and eat at both… Joey Chestnut eats like 1,500 hot dogs… you could manage a couple burgers… 😂

Dropkick Murphys… Always amazing ☘️

@w7voa 🙄

@cpultz how do we say “Joe’s ElCamino” without saying it?

Spoke with stations in both Australia and Austria this morning. There’s a Dumb and Dumber “Throw another shrimp on the Bar-B!” joke there somewhere…

@retroist I had a teenager last night show me his walkman and tell me about the old songs on his mixtape. I should have asked if he made the mixtape himself... funny how something that was so ordinary at the time seems amazing now — having a double tape deck, cueing both up to the appropriate location, hitting play and record at the same time… we were all engineers. :-)

@AE4WX Thanks! I've been trying to record calls on our nightly net with pen/paper the last few nights to practice and haven't been great at it. Our Sunday evening net tends to have fewer check-ins, so I'm hoping that holds true this week!

Found out tonight I’ll be net control manager for the Sunday night ARES net here in town for the next few months while the normal manager teaches an AE class for the club. Time to start hitting the whiskey and cigars so my voice can have the proper gravitas on 146.76 this weekend. 😂

Seriously though — net managers out there… what tips do you have for a first timer? I’ll take any help I can get!

Another this morning… A quick 30 minutes and 14 QSOs at K-5649, Pawnee Lake State Rec Area. I hadnt been to this picnic ground in a long time and forgot how nice it is. Trying to find best way to log (for me). Tried direct in to HAMRS on Saturday, and today tried paper. Each had their own positives and negatives. POTA-people… What works for you?

@kc2ihx yes!! Won’t be anything to remember about those 24 packs other than how you felt afterwards or how long they sat in your garage before you finally dumped the rest out :-)

You know it’s going to be a good beer when the price of the single can catches the cashier’s attention and they ask you “that much?! For one can?!” 😁 It’s always time for a great barrel-aged imperial stout.

I’ve hunted a lot of POTA (Parks on the Air) but this morning I tried my first activation and it went all right! It’s so much easier to hunt when you pretty much know the call and park before you even check in, but to have everybody coming at you is quite a challenge! Thanks so much to so many hams, especially @Kb9vbr and @qrper, that share their experiences online so that a newbie like me can start with some degree of confidence.

Spent an unforgettable evening with 92,002 friends watching Nebraska Volleyball in Memorial Stadium — the largest crowd to ever watch a womens’ sporting event.

@cpultz yeah, losing the “what’s everybody saying right now” aspect of Twitter has been hard, and without a login, that jackhole, Elon has even made it impossible to view posts. My best hope right now is that Threads becomes the place that a lot of that ends up and that Threads holds true to becoming federated through ActivityPub so that those on Mastodon can interact with it.

Haven't talked with South America in a couple months. Was happy to see Paraguay pop up on 17m. Just worked ZP5WBM in Paraguay (Gridsquare: GG16HC / distance: 5129 mi) on 17m using SSB

@mrwilson Some at the Weather Channel seem to agree:

"Abrams argues that numbers in the WBGT may not sound "ominous" enough with critical values "only" in the upper 80 to lower 90 degrees F range."

I think she's right, later in the article, that perhaps if they focused on the colors or levels rather than the actual value, it may be taken more seriously.
