Our Lincoln, Nebraska mountain bike team has grown every year. It's a wonderful community of middle and high school athletes and their families that I'm lucky to be a part of. We've been practicing all summer and get to start racing this weekend — when it may be over 100ºF 🥵
The first day of school is always a fun one and we have a lot of fun at Lincoln Public Schools celebrating it with our #firstweeklps coverage. Our communications crew has been all over the city taking photos, videos and more at our buildings and I've had the pleasure of being the relay man, throwing them up on our https://news.lps.org/first-week-2023/ page.
Finished my second of two 6 1/2 hour shifts driving the “free ride” golf carts at the county fair for the local radio club. So many were excited to take a bumpy trip across the parking lots in the large 6-passenger carts. I just wish I had time to actually attend the fair myself! 😁
@r2d3522 @dynode Its not my thing either, but it seems that every aspect of radio one could be in to also has a contingent of folks that think it’s pointless and a waste of bandwidth. I figure I can try to find a way to play along, find a quieter band or shut it all off and go do something else for the weekend.
Fun night at the Sporting KC Leagues Cup game last night but I have never seen the stadium just get taken over by the other team. It was a Chivas home game (they were even selling Chivas merch!)— but we got the win and they are out of the tournament 😁

‘Twas the night before Quilt Auction and all through the camp, not a creature was stirring. It was too hot and damp! https://www.cjhcenter.org/quilt-auction starts tomorrow morning!
@WXFanatic Another meteorologist for you to add to your awesome list at https://rentry.co/wxlinks-mastodon : @rustywx in Lincoln, NE
@cpultz Funny how, in the past, being able to self-host your social media server would be considered a positive, but today it seems like a hurdle. I still think that having a known domain attached to your username is the ultimate blue checkmark, but I haven't seen a lot of that happening yet.
@w7voa Tricky thing with Mastadon… you could not see it on your timeline and, as far as you could tell, does not exist due to it being blocked, but does not mean it isn’t happening. Is this Mastodon’s problem? Certainly an image problem if their name keeps coming up in relation to it but does Apache get implicated when a website with such content is discovered? Is pop/smtp/imap tarnished if emails with such content are discovered?
@mrwilson Dozens! 😂 Spent countless hours with Warbirds and California Games!
Well look what showed up today… I wish it was a little cooler out. I’d love to get this new random wire on the air! #HamRadio

@cpultz I agree that it's a sad situation, but eyeballs, clicks and engagement are support and I don't see this as anything that can be supported anymore. I sure didn't want it to turn into what it has, but that's over. I wouldn't create an account on Truth and likewise, I can't keep an account on X. There are many great perspectives, hot takes and discussions that I know I will miss, and I hate that—but I have hope that it will eventually move to a better place.
@neverflw Yes! 🤓
16 1/2 years on the birdsite... today it's over. I had held on to the account the past several months thinking that maybe it could become a worthwhile place to return to, but I've lost that hope. I won't be on X.
My painful experience is that "better" rarely matters. I had a Magnavox Odyssey when everybody else had Atari, a Sega Master System when my friends had Nintendo, a Genesis when the more popular system was the SNES, an Atari Lynx when Game Boys were hot... I could keep going. The most popular is often the simpler, more approachable platform that the people you know also have. https://www.businessinsider.com/instagram-adam-mosseri-android-now-better-ios-iphone-2023-7
@mattdsteele super cool. Knew about Spot but not about the APIs that were available. Wonder if something similar could be done with APRS — but you'd need reliable digipeater coverage over ride area. Good luck preparing for the Long Voyage!
A local brewer here in Lincoln, NE called Code, that has always used a lot of Morse code in its decorating, seems to have started to lean into this further with radio-related beer names. It’s had me thinking about other possible names… “Ragchew IPA” for a session beer, “QRT Imperial Stout” implying that you’re about to go dark, “Dummy Load” for a non-alcoholic beer, “Solar Cycle” for a California common…
Maybe Twitter did it earlier, but it seems that you can no longer view anything without logging in. The institution I work for, when we started using social media, felt okay posting to Facebook and Twitter partly because you weren't required to have an account to see what we posted there. Now that Twitter seems to have put all content behind the gates, I'm curious what we will do.
I so want to delete my personal twitter account, but I don't want to lose my ability to see what's there if needed.
